DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve pain and muscle tension throughout the body. This type of massage is extremely beneficial because it reaches the deepest layer of muscles, fascia (connective tissue surrounding the joints) and tendons. The goal in deep tissue massage is to breakdown adhesion's (tense areas within the muscle fibers). Adhesion's in the muscle are very important to address because they can cause pain, inflammation and limit motion (ROM) of the muscles and joints. Deep tissue does not necessarily mean you will be in pain during or after the work. It simply means we are targeting deeper layers of muscle tissue than in the traditional Swedish or Shiatsu massage styles. Deep tissue is a combination service that incorporates many different styles including Shiatsu, Swedish, Trigger Point therapy, PNF stretching, MFT, joint mobilization, as well as other techniques.
Most of our clients are interested in deep tissue massage, and that makes sense because it is a great way to manage pain and range of motion (ROM) issues. Deep tissue massage—as well as the other therapeutic massage methods—can give you a lot of relief from chronic pain. Many of our clients come in for frozen shoulder treatment and neck pain—two side effects of working on computers all day. However deep tissue can be used to treat TMJ issues, Carpal Tunnel, Sciatica, Pyraformis syndrome, as well as every day aches and pains.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage is a form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics. It is used to help prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity and maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries. Sports Massage combines our Deep Tissue service with PNF stretching, joint mobilization MFT, as well as many other techniques. Sports massage can be tuned for pre-event, post-event or a regular training day. Sports massage works deep in the muscles, realigning the muscle fibers and connective tissue, and assists in flushing away the toxins. Regular sessions will increase joint mobility / flexibility, and reduce the risk of injury during exercise.
SWEDISH MASSAGE
One of the most commonly taught and well known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by simulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body and promote blood and lymphatic flow. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on being exposed. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping techniques, with the application of oil to reduce friction on the skin. Used most often for its relaxation benefits, Swedish massage is the most common "introductory" technique for people who have never experienced massage before.
SHIATSU MASSAGE
Developed in Japan, Shiatsu is a finger pressure technique utilizing traditional acupressure / acupuncture points. Shiatsu massage concentrates on "unblocking" the flow of "Chi" or life energy through the body and restoring balance in the energy meridians in order to promote self healing. The practitioner uses a combination of joint mobility and range of motion stretching, as well as applies pressure to specific points located along the energy meridians. The treatment brings about a sense of rejuvenation, some clients describe feeling relaxed yet energized after a Shiatsu massage. Please note: Shiatsu is done fully clothed. Please wear loose fitting or yoga type clothing to this appointment. This style of massage is designed to free up energy blockage and promote self healing.
MYO-FACIAL THERAPY
"Myo" means muscle, and "fascia" means bandage or girdle. Fascia is a connective tissue which runs continuously throughout our entire body like a three-dimensional web. It is not only running through our muscles, but also our bones, organs, vessels and skin. Fascia is, in reality, what gives us our shape and holds everything together. If you looked at the body as just a muscular system or skeletal system without fascia, you would see a pile of muscles and bones.
MFT incorporates gentle hands-on techniques, usually with a sustained pressure. The pressure can range from very light to deep.
Some techniques might include traction or movement of a body part or the entire body. A skilled MFR therapist learns to feel the restrictions and apply pressure in the appropriate direction and depth until they release. Release opens up the tight or stuck places in the facial system, kind of like lubricating a rusty spring.
As the lubrication occurs, the body naturally aligns itself in a more healthy state, providing freedom of movement and release of pain. Please book Deep Tissue Massage if you are interested in MFT work.
ASSISTED (PNF) STRETCHING
PNF stretching is currently the fastest and most effective way known to increase flexibility and range of motion (ROM). PNF is an acronym for proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. It is a technique of combining passive stretching and isometric stretching in order to achieve maximum flexibility. The greatest changes in ROM generally occur after the first repetition and in order to achieve more lasting changes in ROM, PNF stretching is most effective when performed once or twice per week along with regular massage
REFLEXOLOGY
Originated in china, reflexology is a form of massage that involves applying pressure to points on the feet or hands that practitioners believe are associated with specific organs of the body. The theory is that by stimulating these areas of the hands and feet, one can promote better overall health. While the medical benefits have never been proven, there's little question that a reflexology massage can alleviate pain as well as be a very relaxing and pleasurable experience.
AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function. There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties

Neuromuscular therapy is a system of massage techniques that were developed in the 1930's by Dr. Stanley Lief in England. It uses a holistic approach towards healing, emphasizing and stimulating the body's natural ability to heal itself. Neuromuscular therapy also enhances the function of joints and muscles, and accelerates the overall healing process by facilitating the release of endorphins.
Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing \"trigger points\" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These \"knots\" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

Your body stores stress in specific areas called pressure points. Pressure points are small painful pockets of energy that are located along a nerve pathway in your body. These pressure points actually block the nerve energy from flowing through your body, causing a variety of discomforts and illnesses.
